Another Week Down - Friday, June 11, 2010

Our early mornings in the dark soon give way to beautiful sun rises. We remember how gorgeous the sky was last year, a brilliant red most of the time. We couldn't get over it! We only enjoy them in the winter because we are up before the sun. During the summer months, we are still in bed as it gets light so early. And here, the sun doesn't come up over mountains -- just over the ocean. It's been a fun change for us to observe.

It took me a long time to decide what to wear today because the cold weather we had expected was on hold. It wasn't going to be as bad a predicted. But, since I would be at the mission home most of the day, I knew what to expect. Normally they keep it cool -- too cool for us, but with the remodeling going on and now with the movers coming today too, I knew the doors would be open most of the day. It could get rather uncomfortable for me. I played it safe and chose a sweater set to keep me warm.

When the elders arrived at the office, they didn't even take their coats off. They announced that they were leaving first thing to meet Elder Brown up at the Immigrations building to work out some problems he had with his residency. Elder Hales had to go along this time because there were no other elders to accompany Elder Peterson. They were taking the train and thought they would be back by noon.

I worked on entering baptisms as I never had time this week until now. However, I was to be at the mission home at 11:00 to continue putting magnetic strips on the missionary cards for the transfer board. I only had about two hours to do office work before I had to go.

Elder Kroff would be left all alone but he didn't seem to mind as he had a lot of miscellaneous things to do. He had a lot of papers to shuffle around and he brought his little portable speakers with him to listen to church hymns to keep him company.

My remise ride today left me shaking my head. I had never seen this driver before and when I showed him the address, I knew we were in trouble. He obviously had never driven anyone to the mission home before and had no clue where we were going, and I couldn't explain to him how to get there. When we get in the vicinity of the mission home, I can tell them where to turn, to go left or right or straight ahead, or on the corner. I can handle that in Spanish, but to tell him how to get to Acassuso is another thing. After calling on his radio for help, we were headed generally in the right direction, but it wasn't a straight shot like it should have been. He was a nice gentleman and helped me out of the car, shook my hand, and gave me an "Argentine kiss." For future trips by myself, I will learn how to direct them better in Spanish.

I worked on the transfer board from 11:00 until 4:00, with a break for lunch. Sister Argyle made some tuna fish sandwiches and we had chips and fruit. It tasted good. While I put the magnets on the remainder of the 164 missionary cards, she was getting final things organized before the movers came to pack them up. They arrived at 2:00 and by the time I left at 4:00 they had most of the things piled up in the dining room in boxes. They were very efficient and fast. I was impressed!! I forgot our camera and was upset at myself because I wanted a picture of it.

Sister Argyle drove me back to the office as she was headed that way to pick up her daughter from a friend's house. It was perfect timing that I finished just as she got the call from her daughter.

Rich was alone when I returned to the office as the elders had left to do their missionary work. He said that after they returned from Immigrations and had lunch, they took off again in a remise to check out an apartment complaint in the Norte zone. So, basically, Elder Kroff was holding the fort down by himself today. He said he got a lot done.

We left the office at 5:00 and hurried home to get our shopping cart so we could go to Disco and get a few things, plus stop at the Farmacia to refill perscriptions. Then we went to McDonald's for a hamburger. Tonights meal was much better than the one we had last week. Thankgoodness, or we may have given up on them.

We had to hurry along as we had choir practice at 7:00 and although we preferred not having it on a Friday night, we wanted to support the choir leader.

We were the first ones there so we asked for a picture of Maria Christina and Jose Francisco Cuevas. She is the choir director and also leads the music in Relief Society. They are a nice couple.

We finally found our home at 8:30 and it was nice to stop and relax for the evening. Sleep in day tomorrow. Yea!!
