A Baptism today - Saturday, October 23, 2010

To catch up on some work at the office that needed Rich's attention before Monday, he went to the office at 8:00. I slept in because of my late night last night working on my blog entries. It was way after midnight before I got to bed.

By the time Rich returned, I was up and ready for the day and had started my Saturday cleaning. I also organized pictures to continued my updates of the week we spent with our daughters. We combined pictures Melissa took with ours and it was a big job to select what depicted what we did and how to display them appropriately throughout the blog entry.

I thought I would have all day to putter around doing laundry, cleaning, and blog entries, but when Rich came back he said that our office missionaries had a baptism at 3:00 today. Well then, that takes priority, so we made time for that in our schedule.

Elder Davis was baptizing a young man named Abel Angel Ruiz. We don't know too much about him, but his aunt and family supported him today and he seemed pleased to be taking this big step in his life. The real challenge with teenagers is keeping them active and coming to church. It is very important that the other youth in the wards and branches rally round them and offer their friendship. They do need a friend at church!

After the baptism when we were in the office, I got on the computer to see if there were any responses to the email I sent yesterday regarding the change in procedure with the mail. Were there ever!! I took them one by one and answered the questions hoping my answers would satisfy the anxious parents and calm their fears.

Also at the church tonight at 5:00, the Young Men and Young Women in the stake were having a talent night. Each ward and branch had prepared skits to be presented which would be judged. If they went over fifteen minutes, they were docked points.

The place was packed!!! The members come out in droves to support activities such as this. The overflow was filled, and the sliding doors at the back of the chapel had to be opened so people could filter in there and at least stand to watch the productions. We saw one of them and then decided to come home. We would have liked to have seen the one our branch put on, but we were standing in the chapel and didn't have a seat. Rich still had to do his Sunday School lesson, and I always have work to do on my daily entries on the computer, so we slipped out and headed for home. We found out later that our branch was last on the program.

We thought it interesting that some families had brought a picnic lunch to eat throughout the evening. One family even brought hot dogs to pass out to their kids. We heard that it ended at 8:00 which would have made it a three hour ordeal. I'm glad we came home.
