Uneventful Day - Saturday, September 4, 2010

We allowed ourselves to sleep in until 8:00. Wow! I was partially awake and aware it must be later than 7:00 because of how light it was in our room, but refused to open my eyes and really wake up. I was surprised, however, that Rich wasn't awake and up earlier. He isn't a sleep-in kind of guy.

It was a cloudy, gloomy, misty morning, but the forecast said that it should clear by noon. We took our time getting ready for the day, and after I got the sheets and towels together, Rich took them over to the lavandaria. We were going to start cleaning the apartment, but needed to put that aside until we got back from going on some errands up Constitucion. But, before leaving, Marianne and Mekhi skyped us to show us that Mekhi had lost another tooth. Now his two bottom front teeth are gone.

Our first stop up Constitucion was to the dry cleaners to drop off a pair of Rich's pants and one of my sweaters. They seem to do a good job and we are glad we found them so we don't have to go to San Isidro every time -- to the one the Argyles introduced us to at the first of our mission.

Next, we stopped at our favorite empanada place where we bought a variety of ten to eat for lunches during the week. I would like to put a name to the place, but keep forgetting to look for it when we are there. But we love the empanadas they make.

Across the street and up a block is the carniceria where we bought two kilos of carne pecada (hamburger). Again, we used to buy our hamburger in San Isidro where Sister Argyle shopped. But we trust the meat here and it is so much more convenient to shop locally.

Our final destination and the main reason that took us on our jaunt was to go to the Kodak store to make copies of some pictures we have taken. Some people ask for a picture and some we just want to give away. While in the store, we learned from the clerk that in July this place caught fire and everything inside was destroyed. At 7:00 a.m. one morning, a machine inside shorted and caught fire and the whole place went up in flames. Since the walls and everything are cement, it didn't spread to any other business. She said it was cleaned up and rebuilt in two weeks.

The sky looked threatening on our walk back home, but the rain held. We got home at 1:30 and waited until the Assistants called to tell us they were through with the car. We wanted to go grocery shopping at the Carrefour down by the autopista and needed transportation. Before they called, the office elders called and asked if they could go with us. Today is their P-day and they said they had cabin fever and wanted to go somewhere for a couple of hours before they went out teaching. We'd love to have them!!

Going shopping on a Saturday afternoon at Carrefour isn't a wise thing to do. The first clue that there would be long lines was the difficulty we had in finding a shopping cart. Rich had to round one up across the parking lot. We probably won't attempt to shop there on a Saturday again. Friday nights are best for us, but lately we have had things to do on Fridays that prevented the shopping. The elders dropped us and our groceries off and they returned the car to the office. The sun came out as promised and the late afternoon was beautiful.

We cleaned our apartment, then I worked on two journal entries getting caught up while Rich listened to the BYU/Washington football game on the computer with earbuds. BYU won by six points.

There is a noisy group above us in the party room. We hear it all because we are on the top floor. The echo from the room is unreal. We always hear people when they are up there, but tonight it is especially loud. Good thing for earplugs.
