Anticipation - Monday, July 5, 2010

Another balmy night so we had to open our window a little wider last night to let in some fresh air. We like a cool room. When Rich checked the weather and temperature for today, it said it was going to get up to 59 degrees and it was already 66 degrees when we got up. Some weather machine is all mixed up!!

Since hearing the news over the weekend that our new mission president will arrive this week, excitement and nervousness have filled the air. It is certainly a time of mixed emotions having the Argyles leave, and wondering what it will be like to adjust to a new president and wife. One comforting bit of information we learned came from Elder Neuffer who got to meet the Gulbrandsens when they were in the MTC. He said that President Gulbrandsen is very outgoing and friendly and endeared himself to those missionaries he met briefly. Elder Neuffer was impressed with both of them. So that is good news.

Sister Argyle emailed me this morning at work and said that Sister Gulbrandsen would like me to continue handling the medical calls until we leave. Then I can train her. Also, since they are coming with transfers right upon them, Sister Argyle asked if I would go to the mission home and help Nanci prepare two of the three meals that will need to be served next week -- one is for the incoming group, one for those leaving, and one for the Zone Leaders Council which is held next Friday. Sister Gulbrandsen will probably be overwhelmed and will need time to work into the cooking mode. I am glad to help, and I know the menus that are used.

I was glad to get all the letters printed off for the August transfer today now that I knew I could change the name of the president on each letter. I also printed the certificates that each missionary gets when his/her mission is over. I hope President Gulbrandsen is ready for all the times he will sign his name over the three years he is here. I have the need right now for 44 signatures.

Elder Peterson and Elder Hales find it exciting to be in the office as the mission changes leadership, as do we. We know changes will be made as time goes on, and hope we will all be able to adapt.

None of us found our work in the office today very challenging. We just plugged away at various tasks at our desks and had times of chatting and laughter. The only people we saw were the AP's and Elder Neuffer who dropped in once to leave some data with Elder Peterson. We did find out that our Elder Neuffer has a cousin, Elder Neuffer, serving in the Zurich, Switzerland mission where the Larsons are serving. Elder Taylor Neuffer says "hi" to his cuz!

The skies looked threatening for a rain storm this evening, so we hurried on home around 4:30. It has yet to shed a drop.
