When the alarm went off this morning, I could tell it wasn't going to be a good day health wise for me. If I didn't have to play the piano for Sacrament meeting, I just may have stayed home today. My throat is sore and I am starting to get some congestion in my chest. Last night at the baptism when I told Elder Hales that I had a little sore throat, he felt so bad. He hasn't been feeling good this week and his ailments started with a sore throat and slight fever, but then escalated to a bad head cold. I assured him that he didn't "give" me anything and that I wouldn't have a stuffed up head like him -- mine always ends up in congestion in my lungs.
When we got to church our Stake President was there and greeted us warmly. We thought he was there to be one of the speakers, but he just presided. Before the meeting started, Rich saw him take one of our brethren into a room to talk to to him. We are in need of an Elder's Quorum President and decided that was the reason for the visit today. He stayed for the whole block of meetings.
Sister Torre was ill today and not at church, so President Torre brought another sister up to me at the piano. She was from the Stake Primary and was visiting today. He asked her to substitute for Sister Torre in leading the music but she was not familiar with the Sacrament Hymn I chose -- Jesus of Nazareth. I played it through for her, but she looked uneasy and fearful, so Rich asked her if she would like me to change to one she knew. She picked While of These Emblems, We Partake and luckily I knew that one.
Our sacrament meeting speakers were the two sister missionaries, Sisters Sandoval and Shaffer, and Brother Baldovino.
It was all I could do to sit through Sunday School and Relief Society. Sister Shaffer, who is new with us now in Tigre, plays the piano and can lead music, so I asked her if she could lead for me in Relief Society. I could not force one musical note or sound from my mouth. I just wanted to lay my head down. I tried to stay away from people. I guess I could have gone home by myself on the bus or in a remise, but I thought I would stick it out.
While waiting for the bus after church, we decided to only wait fifteen minutes and if one didn't come we would call a remise. We weren't about to wait like we did last week. We were able to make it home in a timely manner, and it wasn't too soon for me.
Dinner was in the crockpot - chicken, potatoes, and carrots. Before we ate, Rich decided to go find a Farmacia to get me some medicine that clears up my illness. I really need to be well enough to go to work tomorrow. I have materials for two zone conferences to put together before tomorrow afternoon. Our regular Farmacia was closed, but they had a note on the door of two that were open. So after we ate, I went to bed and he was going to walk 14 blocks to find this Farmacia. Well, he got 10 blocks away and realized he forgot his wallet. He'll try again tomorrow.
I slept three and a half hours and decided I felt well enough to write this entry. Sorry, no pictures. Better days ahead!
Hello Brother & Sister Kroff,
ReplyDeleteI am Elder Peterson's oldest sister. I just found out about your blog, and its been fun to check it out and see some pictures of my brother. Tell him hi!
We hope you are feeling better tomorrow. It's miserable being sick when you've got things to do! I miss leading the music in the Geneva Ward. I've been "subbing" for over a year!
