No sun today!! The forecast is rain starting about 1:00, and the temperature 74 degrees. So this looked like a day that I could wear a jacket to church and not be too hot. Remembering last March when we came, I wore long sleeves and jackets all the time. I'll chance it!!
When we pulled away from home in the remise, we remembered we didn't bring our umbrellas, just in case. Could be dangerous!!
Our two faithful saints, Sister Diaz and Sister Ramos de Fernandez, were in the chapel when we arrived and always have a warm greeting for us. As I was practicing my hymns for the day, I was not sure that the hymn, Lord, Accept our True Devotion, was a familiar one to the branch. I had Rich ask the ladies about it. Sister Diaz said that she has not sung that hymn for 12 years. When she came from Peru 12 years ago, that was one of the first hymns she sang here and she has not been in a meeting since where that hymn has been used. Well then, I told her we were doing it for her today.
Sister Torre and a member of the High Council spoke in Sacrament meeting. Sister Torre spoke on the importance of all of us as members being converted and the importance of the Book of Mormon in that process. Rich could not follow the train of thought from the High Council representative.
The Relief Society lesson ended early, so while waiting for Priesthood meeting to come to a close, several of the sisters and I remained in the foyer. They gathered around asking me questions about my family and surprisingly I understood them and responded the best I could in Spanish. The young sister in the green blouse is new to our branch and she speaks some English so we had a nice chat. They are wonderful saints and try hard to live the gospel and they like having us with them in the branch. They were so cute hovering around me wanting so badly to talk to me and have me understand them. We will miss this branch when we have to leave.
It was barely sprinkling when we left the building and we waited about 10 minutes under the bus stop shelter. We weren't sure if a bus had just come by, but we were not about to stay much longer and get caught in a downpour. So we walked back to the church and called a remise. Minutes later we were on our way home and our decision to bag the bus trip was inspired. It started to rain more and more and we got home shortly before the heavens opened. And, it has been raining all afternoon. We were grateful to be home with no where to go the rest of the day.
We enjoyed a skype visit with our daughters and grandsons, and with Paul and Denise as well.
