Office Illness - Tuesday, March 16, 2010

We think fall is finally in the beginning stages as we haven't had temperatures above 79 for a couple of weeks now. Walking to work in the 60's feels absolutely wonderful to us, but there are some locals with sweaters or jackets on.

I felt better today when I woke up and expected to have a good day at work. I am coughing some, but it doesn't seem as bad as in times past. Odd!! It has been the same for 30 years, so why not now?

We started our new book on tape, Fire of the Covenant, today and find it interesting. It starts out in Scotland with members of the church hoping to get to America. Along with the fictional story, we enjoy learning the history about the people and events of the past. We anticipate getting involved with these pioneers as much as we did with those in The Undaunted. It livens up our morning routine.

Elder Coria came dragging in today. He hasn't slept well for two nights now due to the congestion in his head. Today he said his throat hurt. I felt so bad for him. So when Elder Kroff and Elder Hales left to go pay some bills, I had them pick up a decongestant at the Farmacia. I looked in my medical book and gave them a list of four to choose from. Actually, Elder Hales can take them too, as he is still not over his bout with a head cold.

After a while, Elder Coria grabbed a pillow from our supply on hand and laid down on the floor in the President's office and took a nap. He wasn't there very long because the floor was so hard. I told him he needed to go home and get into his own bed. He said, "I think that would be better." So after they ate lunch, Elder Peterson went home with him. Elder Hales stayed and attended their District Meeting and arranged with a member to go with him to a teaching appointment. So we haven't had a very healthy office the last few days. But, Elders Kroff and Peterson are still dodging the bullets.

Part of my day was spent getting the mail and supplies packed up for the Congreso zone conference tomorrow. I put them in our entry way and the President and the assistants pick them up when they return the empty bins from the conferences yesterday.

After I finished with that, then I started boxing up the supplies to go down south. I am always in a panic trying to get them done and on their way so they will arrive by the time the President goes south for the conferences down there. But, he told me at our meeting the other day that he prefers that they don't arrive in time for the conferences, that it is too distracting for the missionaries. They are always focused on whether any of the mail is for them. It is easy for the district leaders to just take the mail and supplies to their district meeting and distribute it there rather than pack it to the zone conference anyway. That's what I am to tell them. Whew!! That takes the pressure off me big time.

I also placed my Book of Mormon order today, and ordered some to be sent to the south. So, I wasn't lacking for things to do today. I had in the back of my mind that when I got the zone conference taken care of, that if I wasn't feeling too good, I would just come home and have a nap and rest the remained of the day. Well, that didn't happen. Everything seemed urgent to get done and I did feel okay staying at the office.

We left at 5:00, and knowing that Rich had to return to the church to teach his English class at 6:30, I started dinner immediately when we got home. I didn't want to send him off without anything to eat, because it would be too late for him to eat when he got home due to his acid reflux condition. So I quickly prepared pork chops, boiled potatoes, and fresh green beans for dinner. It looked and tasted so good, then off he went.

He returned at 8:00 and we spent a quiet evening doing this entry, ironing white shirts, and Marianne called in on skype to talk to us.

We can't believe the month is half over!!!
