Restful Day - Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009

The sky was cloudy when we got up, but no rain is in the forecast. Since we still had access to the President's car, we decided we would take it to church in Tigre today and save a remise and colectivo fare. Rich just has to walk to the office to get it, but that is no problem for him and he likes to exercise his leg.

After I got ready, I plugged in the crockpot and put chicken, potatoes, onions and carrots in to cook while we were at church. No Campbell's Cream of Chicken soup to add, but Knorr's brand of a packaged soup mix would do.

There were only 35 people at Sacrament meeting today. The early starting time of 9:00 a.m. might be the reason for our low attendance. We wonder why church has to start so early when it is the only branch that meets in the building. With travel and sometimes bad weather issues, starting later might be better for this group of saints. We might ask the Branch President about it sometime.

Our Primary program is scheduled for the Sunday after Christmas. Since I have been asked to play the piano for the program, I need all the time I can get for practicing the songs. Some are not too hard, but still it is making me a little nervous. I will be going in to Primary for the last 15 minutes each Sunday to play on the keyboard while they sing. Getting used to the keyboard is challenging also. As Sister Hinckley once said, "How did a nice girl like me get into a mess like this?" I can relate to that.

Our dinner tasted good, and later in the day we went to the San Fernando church (connected to our office) to a satellite broadcast fireside with Elder Bednar and Elder Snow. They were here in Buenos Aires and it was broadcast to Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. He again had members in the congregation ask questions. It was inspiring and a learning experience to hear their responses.

Last night before we went with the missionaries, we attended a Stake Youth Dance Competition that was held in the stake center. The Young Men and Young Women prepared dances with themes and costumes and performed them before a huge crowd that attended. It was similar to our Roadshows back home, but there was no traveling from place to place.

This is the Pacheco ward that performed several dance numbers from "Grease." I didn't get there in time to see them, but Rich thought they were the best.

This is the group in action.

These are some of the Young Women from the San Fernando ward. We are acquainted with three of these young ladies -- the ones in purple, blue, and pink/white. We have been to dinner in their homes. They are beautiful girls and very active in the ward.

Some groups went all out with fancy costumes, and a lot of planning and preparation went into this event. Everyone was having a great time.

There was the traditional judges table with one of our own from Tigre, Sister Carbajal, on the far right, acting as a judge. She is our Relief Society President.

The cultural hall and over flow were packed. They even opened the sliding doors to the chapel so people could stand in there to watch. The winners will be announced in a couple of weeks at some sort of a party they are having for all the dancers.

We remarked tonight that in comparison to this group, there was only a handful of people in attendance to hear Elder Bednar.
