A Busy Day

We have just passed through what the South Americans call Tormenta de Santa Rosa. It is a cold, rainy time of year which begins five days before August 30 and ends five days after August 30. This 10 days of stormy weather precedes the coming of Spring. One remise driver told us that there has always been rain on August 30. And there was -- we took note. Our temperatures have been rather cold lately, but they are slowly creeping up. Today was 61 degrees and by next Tuesday, it is suppose to be in the low 70's. We need to enjoy this cool weather, I guess, because we are told we won't believe how miserable it is in the summer. They say the heat and humidity is suffocating. We are not looking forward to dripping with sweat every day. Yuk!

Today at the office it was quite hectic at times. The phone seemed to be ringing continuously, and calls from the gate made Rich jump up to take care of getting mail, to letting plumbers in to fix a problem in the kitchen at the church. We were alone most of the morning because the elders were out and about doing what they do. They were taking advantage of having the President's car to run errands and do apartment things.

The President wanted a report on how many outstanding confirmations we have on record. The ideal situation is to have a baptism on Saturday and a confirmation on Sunday. Sometimes when baptisms occur on a Sunday, then it is difficult to wait a week to get the person confirmed the next Sunday. Some lose interest and don't show up, some have to work, etc etc. So I spent a good part of the morning calling missionaries and finding out the story about the unconfirmed people. On record now, we have 18. But that amount will decrease this Sunday as some are scheduled to be confirmed. Some have fallen off the wagon and are no where to be found. Three have actually moved before they got confirmed. Strange!

The Argyles have lost the internet connection in the Mission Home. So while that is being resolved, President and Sister Argyle came to the office this afternoon in order to use the internet. The President needs it to stay connected to the Missionary Dept, the church in general, and for forwarding information to the missionaries. So the afternoon was filled with people coming and going. Elder Kroff worked on entering data for Sister Argyle on the English program for the Latins, and I entered 16 more baptisms.

If it is Thursday, it must be physical therapy night. Yup, another session made Rich's leg feel even better. We found out that it is a 10 session program. After next week, we return to Dr. Ottonello and he will determine if he needs more or if he can continue doing exercises on his own at home. We kind of hope the latter is the route we will follow. That will free up two more nights a week for us. However, Rich is getting pretty spoiled having a good leg rub down twice a week. And some of the equipment he uses there will not, of course, be available for exercising at home. Oh well!

This is Rich's usual position every night -- lounging on the couch using his iPhone as a computer while I work on the blog.

We are looking forward to tomorrow night. We have a date with the Argyles. They have invited us to out to dinner with them. I think we are going to an Italian restaurant. Yippee!!
