A New Hermana

Our weather has been cool and rainy all week long. It hasn't been so cold that we have needed the heat on high all the time, but just enough to take the chill off the office. It surely is a change from last weekend.

Today we went to the office anticipating the arrival of a new sister missionary from Mexico. Sister Argyle was picking her up from the airport at 11:30 and then since she is coming on a day other than a regular transfer day, she doesn't get the royal treatment at the mission home that the others do. So the orientation and training takes place at the office and we buy lunch for us all to eat together. We ordered Empanadas which were delivered, then we bought fruit, and Alfajores (an Argentine cookie). That is what they eat at the mission home on day of arrival. Elder Kroff and Elder Paz and Sister Argyle did the orientation and training in the President's office. It was a little low key compared to when a large group comes. And then this time, the President wasn't here because he comes home tomorrow from the South. But, all went well and we are glad she has arrived safely.

Sister Mora, on the right, is from Mexico. She has a brother on a mission in Mexico right now. Other siblings have served missions in Mexico and she is the only one who has gone to another country. Her father is a Stake President there and the family is well grounded in the gospel. However, while waiting for her visa she has been doing missionary work in Mexico for two months. So she is already used to the missionary life. Her companion, Sister Winters, came to pick her up. Sister Winters goes home to Virginia in November.

Sister Winters had what we call a mini missionary for a companion for a month. It is just a member of the church worthy to serve, but not an official calling as a missionary. I'm not sure how they get called to do this. Maybe the Stake President asks them, or maybe they volunteer. But this young lady is from Buenos Aires and is getting married in about 6 weeks. Good thing Sister Mora got here, so she can devote more time to planning her wedding.

Hermana Argyle and Hermana Mora pose for a photo. Hna Mora is just beautiful and seems confident and ready to serve. We were impressed with her.

This activity took up much of the day. The couple of hours left in the afternoon weren't very productive. I was so tired and wanted a nap. When the 4:00 hour came and the elders departed, we decided to call it a day and go home to rest before leaving for Rich's physical therapy appointment.

We ate so much at 1:00 when lunch was served, that we weren't hungry for dinner before the appointment. We each took a short nap and then called a remise to take us to the therapy. Rich is doing fabulous in therapy. His leg feels better each time.

Soup, bread and cheese were enough to satisfy us before we watched the 1953 film, Niagra, with Marilyn Monroe. Boy, it was an old time movie. The other night we watched The Shop Around the Corner with Jimmy Stewart. These old time classics are fun to watch, and we enjoy them because there isn't bad language, sex, and too much violence.
