Solving a Problem

Our weather pattern is like a roller coaster. It dips to temperatures in the 40's and then today it was around 63. It was colder in our office than outside. It is to remain like this for the remainder of the week and then some stormy weather is suppose to be coming next Monday. But today was very pleasant. And, this is winter.

When our office car was taken away, they exchanged the President's car for one that was newer. It is a silver van large enough to haul supplies and mail to the zone conferences. I'm not sure what year it is. Today, Elders Nelson and Valente were using it for some errands, and while getting gas and pulling away, Elder Nelson scraped one side on a pillar. He was watching one side closely to avoid what was in their way, and didn't notice the pillar on the other side. Ouch! It also put a couple of dents in the side. Oh dear! I feel sorry for Elder Nelsen having to tell the President. The last thing the President said to Elder Nelson as he handed him the keys was "Take good care of it."

Sister Argyle was at the office when Elder Kroff and I got there. She said that today was when her children went back to school, after a 6 week vacation. So, she came to drop off some things, and luckily I had the packets ready for the missionaries who are leaving. She took them home with her. The office elders went on an errand, so Rich and I had a nice chat with her. She is fun to talk to and really has the spirit of missionary work. She has to juggle being a mom to her kids, and being the mission mother. She does a good job of both, however. It was interesting listening to her talk about the changes they made when they came to the mission, and when and why they made the changes.

I now have the flights home reserved for the group going in December. So today I started working on the January bunch. I email their parents and ask for updated information. From most I get an immediate response, and others I need to send a reminder. I don't like having to send reminders.

I decided to select my hymns for Sacrament Meeting, so I went over to the church and practiced them. We have a baptism on Saturday afternoon, so just in case they need an opening song, I picked out something I could play for that also.

Rich went to buy a fridge for an apartment they are opening, and paid our rent along the way. Then he spent part of the day trying to figure out how we are going to get money from our bank in Tooele down here by Monday to pay for his surgery. They will not take a debit card. After checking around, the only way we can do it is to go to the ATM machines and draw the money out. It will require 18 withdrawals to get the amount we need. But, once you withdraw the maximum they allow, you can't do it again that day. We can go to other ATMs around, but we know of only three around here that are close. He withdrew money from the ATM at the bank, and then after work we took a remise to a grocery store called Coto. We failed there because it wouldn't let him use his card. It must have been tied to the bank somehow and not enough time had lapsed before he could draw more out. What to do?? If we aren't able to resolve this money problem, he may have to contact the doctor and reschedule the surgery. Not a good idea, though. We want this over with and the healing to begin.

Our days are getting longer because at 6:00 now, there is still light outside. The month of August here is equivalent to January at home. However, January in Utah is usually a really cold month. But the starting of August here has been better than we expected. We keep hearing horror stories about how hot it is in December in the middle of summer, along with the humidity.

Rich had a brain storm about how to get the money. He's sleeping on it.
