Our Hangouts

We returned to the clinic early today for the tests the doctor ordered. We were glad we were among the first to be seen because the room kept filling up. Drawing blood came first and then we had to wait about a half hour or so for the Echocardiogram. We notice Dr. Ottonello come in, and after a few minutes he spotted us across the room and came over to greet us. Rich got a handshake and I got the customary Argentine cheek to cheek greeting. He is a likable man and very nice to us. We feel we are in good hands.

By 9:30 we were through with everything and in a remise on our way back to the office. On the way we passed the horse race track that we have heard about. The races are held on Saturdays and Sundays. Sister Argyle told us about them and they have attended one as a family. We would like to get tickets some time and attend this sporting event in person. It was a huge place, and there were owners and trainers congregated around chatting and working with their horses. It looked like a fun thing to do.

We got to the office around 10:00 and promised the elders that we were through being late to work. I don't know if they believed us. I started in finishing my work for transfers next week and by the end of the day I had everything completed. Thankgoodness!! With Rich's surgery being next Monday, the day before transfers begin, it was important to be caught up and ready. We are hoping that he can navigate around on Tuesday and Wednesday with his crutches. He is needed at the mission home on both of those days. His leg can't feel any worse after the surgery than it did when he injured it. He reported to work and got around on crutches just fine when it happened. Let's hope for the best.

After work, we decided to walk to Disco and pick up a few things. At the produce section of the store there was a younger woman and her daughter. I noticed her, but didn't make eye contact. Then she asked me if I spoke English. She thought she heard me saying something to Rich in English. We struck up a conversation and it was fun to actually talk to someone I could understand. She asked if we lived here. I told her we were missionaries and had been here 5 months. She said, "I thought so" meaning that she guess we were something like missionaries. I wondered if it was because of my "Mary Poppins" shoes and tights that I had on. And Rich had his very "gringo" hat on. We probably looked like Quakers or some odd type of religious sect. She was very nice looking and said she was married to an Argentine. They have lived here for four years and she teaches school. After we left, we thought of a lot of questions that we wished we would have asked her.

McDonalds is kitty corner across the street from Disco. We didn't feel like patronizing it tonight. I had things at home I could fix for dinner. But, this is a very popular place. It is always full of customers.

We watched an old classic, "The Letter" on T.V. tonight. It was staring Bette Davis. Rich downloaded some movies onto his iPhone and we can hook it up the the T.V. It held my interest and that's why Rich has gone to bed and I'm still up finishing the blog.

  2. LOL really hard..... I kept laughing at your comment on the quaker sect. Funny to me. Mary Poppins and a Gringo. Oh is your surgery just a simple out-patient surgery? Dad will be back in office the next day? Crazy.. Love you Marianne

  3. How did you know it was Bette Davis? You know the old time movies?
Yes, simple outpatient, but you know his tolerance for pain and needles. It is a good thing they are giving him something to relax him, and they also numb the knee. He has to be at the mission home at 10:00 the following day to instruct the new arrivals about finances. Let's hope for the best.
