We chose to talk with our daughters on Skype last night rather than update our blog, so I decided we could combine two days into one. Yesterday, the elders said they needed haircuts. I said, "Sure, what time do you want to come?" They paused, and then Elder Valente in his broken English said, "We want food too." Oh, okay, then let's have breakfast. We did that a month ago and they really enjoyed spending the morning at our place and having breakfast together. I suppose it will be a tradition on haircut day. I guess my first attempt at cutting their hair didn't scare them off.
We had the President's car most of the week, but he came to get it yesterday. That left us either taking a remise to get groceries at WalMart, or just walking to our nearby Disco store to shop. Since we didn't have a need for a lot of groceries, we just decided to walk to Disco and get a few items that we needed for breakfast. On the way we stopped at McDonald's for dinner.
Rich had to take one crutch with him in case he needed support for his leg, so we had to be careful what we purchased, because we had one less hand for carrying food. We used to shop at Disco all the time when we first came to town, but when Rich became brave enough to start driving, we ventured out to bigger and better places like Carrefour, Jumbos, and WalMart. But now that our weekend wheels are gone, we may be walking to Disco for minor things, and still plan to take remises or trains to go where we want to go. Our mission isn't the only one that has been downsized as far as vehicles go. All the missions in Argentina were affected, maybe more in South America - - not sure.
Elder Nelson wanted to make crepes for breakfast. He's quite the cook. He has a great Betty Crocker cookbook that he lives and dies by. I said I would furnish bacon and scrambled eggs. It's a deal. We added strawberry jam (in place of real strawberries which they didn't have at Disco), whipped cream, and powdered sugar for the true crepe lovers, and maple syrup for those that wanted them to taste like pancakes.
I cut their hair after breakfast and they left to go do internet (write home) and then go grocery shopping. They were going to walk to Carrefour and then bring a remise back, since they would have too many bags to carry.
Rich decided that his leg felt so good that he would take a walk up Constitution (a street by us that has stores all along the way). He wanted to find some blank DVD's. He was going to walk until he found a computer store. There are many in the area. He took one crutch and off he went. He failed to realize that when he went, it was right in the middle of siesta time so most stores were closed. When he found the first store closed, he should have turned around, but he decided to go farther up the street to hopefully fine one that was open. His attempt failed, so he started back home. He had walked about 16 short blocks. On the way home, however, his leg started to hurt and he felt a sharp pain again. This time he didn't press his luck and take any more steps. He had his cell phone with him, so he called a remise to come get him and take him home. When he sees the doctor on Monday, this will be a good piece of information to tell him.
I spent the whole day in the apartment, only going out on the balcony to shake some rugs. I didn't mind. I decided to defrost the freezer. It has been years since I have had to do that. I wonder if they have self defrosting ones.
