We can't explain why we are always so cold. It really isn't too bad outside, and it is not like a Utah winter. So we don't know why we shiver all the time. We hate changing clothes after we come home from the office because we take off clothes that are warmed by our body heat and then expose ourselves to cool air and then put on cold clothes that have not been warmed up yet. It is really strange how we can't get warm.
Rich made the observation that at home if it is cold outside, we come in to nice warm buildings. But there are no nice warm buildings here. The heating systems are not adequate, or else the people can't afford to pay for the heat. The little libreria we go to around the corner from the office where we buy our copy machine paper and some office supplies does not heat their little store. It has high ceilings and the owner said all the heat would escape through the roof. So they just wear sweaters and warm clothes all day. It would be too cold of an environment for me to spend the day there.
Rich is so envious of my little heater under my desk that warms my legs that he is going to get him one, or else wear his thermal garments to work. And the thing we hate doing is using the restrooms over in the church. It is ice cold in the church, and I mean COLD. It takes us several minutes to warm up after being over there. And tomorrow, I have to go over to the chapel to practice hymns for Sacrament meeting. Burrrrr!
Today was more of the same. I worked on my binders for the next transfer, while Elder Kroff accepted call after call about how short on money every missionary is due to the ATM machines charging a fee to withdraw funds. The mission will make it up to them and add more on their cards, but that doesn't solve the problem now when they need milk and bread. Some missionaries spend down their money when they first get it and then wonder how they will survive the rest of the month.
The films look good to us, but what do we know? It will be interesting to see where the damage is.
How much do missionaries get a month in your mission. It's way expensive here for food and such. Our missionaries get $300 a month. We saw your fridge in the photo and wished we had one that big. Most of the fridges over here are dinky or even half size. We hope you warm up. We're in the middle of summer right now; seasons are the same here as at home. May the Lord bless you in your work and hope you knee gets better fast.
