Tour Guides - Thursday, December 2, 2010

We got right into training when we arrived at the office at 9:00. There is sooo much to go over and teach. There isn't time for repeating and practicing, so we hope the Schoenys can retain what they are learning.

We worked right up until noon and our sweet office elders invited us all to eat with them. They were unable to eat the food that Hermana Bolentini brought them on Wednesday because they were gone most of the day on errands. Since she supplies Thursday's meal too, they had two days of wonderful food and said they could not eat it all. So we had a feast which consisted of roast beef, potatoes, noodles with garlic, jello with strawberries, tomato, cucumber, and cabbage salad with a vinaigrette type dressing, and it was delicious. It was a great break and we were refreshed after a good meal and fun time visiting with Elders Peterson and Paz.

We continued on with afternoon training and left around 4:30 to show the Schoenys the route to the mission home. We told the Assistants that we needed the car tonight so Elder Schoeny could do the driving and experience how to get around on the one way streets. He did great and thought it was fun to do the driving.

It was only necessary to drive by the mission home, not go in. So after that we went back to San Fernando so they could see how to get to WalMart. Elder Schoeny drove us safely there with Elder Kroff navigating. They had a list of items they wanted to buy for their apartment so we went in search of them and had success. They are waiting to buy more food and kitchen items until they see what they will inherit from us.

Even though their basket was not heaping, or even very full, we were there over two hours. It wasn't even a Friday night or Saturday and the lines didn't seem too long, but it took forever to get checked out. Even the locals behind us had disgusted looks on their faces.

The office car was filthy and there was no time for the elders to take it to a car wash. So since WalMart has one in their parking lot, we decided to let them do it. It was shiny both inside and out.

We each retired to our own apartments -- glad to be there, and needing to get a good nights sleep for more of the same tomorrow.
