One More Month - Tuesday, September 14, 2010

We thought Elder Davis was going to go to the Zone Conference with the Assistants, but on our walk to the office we ran into Elder Peterson and Elder Paz, and Elder Davis was with them. He had been dropped off at their apartment earlier in the morning and now had to walk with crutches to the office. He did well, but was glad to crash on the mattress we have there to recuperate a little bit.

Nothing was going to take anyone out of the office today so we were happy to be together again. Elder Davis sat close to Elder Peterson to learn a little of what he does. To give him something to do now, plus to have some training in case he were to stay in the office as a worker while he heals, the President wanted him to start learning the office routine.

Elder Paz and Silvio sat for a long time at his computer going over the repairs that needed to be done to several apartments. It is a never ending process to keep up with the maintenance on missionary apartments.

I worked on the supplies and mail for the zones of Belgrano and Norte. Those are the two zones meeting for conference tomorrow. The boxes and bins were fewer than the day before.

During the afternoon, Sisters Shaffer and Romo came to the office to pick up an authorization that Sister Romo needed for a doctor's appointment tomorrow. Sister Shaffer asked for a blessing of health to see her through until the end of her mission in three weeks. She is out of her medication and will get another prescription tomorrow, but wanted the reassurance of feeling well and remaining focused till the end. Elder Kroff gave her a blessing.

As the afternoon progressed, I became weary and not feeling so hot. I couldn't shake it and finally gave in to going home shortly after 4:00. We didn't have a picture for the blog, so Elder Paz grabbed our camera as we were packing up to leave and took one. Rich's hat is a real conversation piece in the mission. Most elders try it on, and for most Latinos it reminds them of an Indiana Jones hat.

We didn't know the plan for Elder Davis today so Elder Peterson was going to check with the Assistants to see where he was to go for the evening. We assumed he would come home with us, but that was put on hold. However, about a half hour after we got home, Elder Peterson called and asked if they could walk him to our place. Of course! He is always welcome, but now I had to figure out what to prepare for dinner. I threw some chicken nuggets in the oven and sliced up and heated two baked potatoes in the frying pan. Then I made some spaghetti sauce from a packet sent from the states to pour over the spaghetti we brought home from our dinner on Saturday night. I made the two elders a tossed salad.

It was a mix matched meal, but it worked. I didn't feel like eating much, but I took a small portion. There were a lot of dishes for this thrown together meal, so while Elder Davis rested on the couch, Rich dried the dishes to which I was deeply grateful. Then I quietly exited the room and just had to lay down for a few minutes in the bedroom. I wasn't even missed by Elder Davis as he fell asleep on the couch. Rich worked on the computer.

When I woke up about a half hour later, I felt well enough to make brownies that we are taking to the office tomorrow to add to the ice cream we are going to order to celebrate Elder Peterson's birthday. We said nothing about his birthday being tomorrow, so he will hopefully be surprised to see the Happy Birthday sign we are putting up along with the balloons we bought to blow up to add a touch of party atmosphere to "his" day. We need to get to work before him tomorrow for sure.

At 10:00, Rich and Elder Davis left to go to the office to meet President Gulbrandsen who was going to stop by long enough to sign a check that Rich needs. He was on his way home from being somewhere late tonight. The Assistants were also on their way home after doing some divisions with the elders in La Boca. They would meet up with Elder Davis at the office to take him home with them. Whatever happened to the 9:00 or 9:30 curfew time for missionaries??? I think the Assistants are the only ones who sometimes don't observe it, with approval of the President.

After Rich and Elder Davis left, I went right to finishing this entry. I am looking forward to bed. It is exciting thinking that one month from today our girls will be here.
