A Visit with the Doctor - Tuesday, May 18, 2010

What a beautiful morning it was and continued to be throughout the day. We are amazed at how pleasant the weather has been. It seems like forever since we have had rain.

We had to make a decision when we got to work regarding a medical matter. We needed to pick up the MRI films that an elder had taken on his back last week, and take them to Dr. Anderson today. The problem was that the slip of paper needed to get them was with the missionary in Sarmiento which is about 45 minutes away by car. We could send a remise to pick up the paper, or we could drive there using the GPS, then go directly to Diagnostico Maipu to get the films, and then on to the Area Offices to the doctor's office. It seemed like a plan and Rich and I were quite excited to go to an area of our mission that we have never seen.

Five minutes down the road while waiting with the bar down for the train to go by, Elder Hales called remembering that he and Elder Peterson had to leave at 11:00 for an appointment with a landlord to get some deposit money back. Okay, so we returned to the office and called a remise to go fetch the paper from the missionary. No biggy!

The elders called a remise to take them on their errand. Quizzically, I asked why they weren't taking the car. They looked stunned and didn't have an answer, but it was too late because the remise was already outside waiting. Now, they are too young to have senior moments!! We laughed!

When they returned it was about 1:00 and we decided there was still time in the day to pick up the MRI and deliver it to Dr. Anderson. A call to him confirmed that this would be a good day, so plans were made that we would be to his office at 3:00.

Dr. Anderson is a personable guy -- warm, friendly, and lots of fun. At the end of our conversations when I have to call him, he always says, "Now, how are you doing?" So today after our discussion about the MRI, I found an opportunity to ask him about my lame arm, mainly around the shoulder. It is rotator cuff related, but not too serious. He prescribed a pill to help with what is probably inflammation, so I am excited to try it.

Dr. Anderson is an OB/GYN doctor and will go home in June ending his three month stay as an interim doctor helping until the long term one comes in October. Another part time doctor will come in July and stay until October. I hope he will be as approachable as Dr. Anderson. Sister Anderson is a sweetheart too. Next Monday evening we are going to their home for FHE as a farewell dinner is being held for two senior couples that will be leaving soon. We are glad to be included. Should be fun.

We returned home by 5:15 and I was glad to stay put, but Rich had to teach his English class tonight. I worked on the computer while he was gone starting this journal entry and writing an email.
