Wonderful Weather - Tuesday, April 6, 2010

The nights are so cool now, even cold. Our window is just cracked open and the breeze can be felt. The temperature for sleeping is heavenly. And, our evenings at home do not require the air conditioner to be on. Definitely changing weather!!

From our balcony, Rich spotted a tree changing color. Fall is in the air for sure. I am able to wear outfits with jackets to the office on some days, and today it felt good as the air was brisk as we walked the walk. It is a welcomed change for my wardrobe.

As we approached the office, Sister Argyle's van was parked inside the fenced area. We were confused. As we entered the area and walked towards the door, she got out of the van and greeted us. The darkened windows of the vehicle didn't allow us to see anyone inside, so it startled me at first. She had only been there a few minutes and had come with her computer to allow Elder Celis to take the English test. Because the test now has to be administered in our office by Elder Kroff, and the test from BYU can only be installed on a PC not a Mac computer, she will have to run her computer over each day that someone is scheduled to take the test. Then, she will have to come back later in the day to get it. What a pain, but she said she can live with it for the short time they have left here.

Elder Celis came shortly after 9:00 and went into the President's office to take the test which lasts about an hour and a half. While the test was in progress, Sister Argyle was doing other things, and then opted to just wait until he finished so she could take her computer with her rather than returning for it. Another test is scheduled for next week.

It seemed strange without Elder Coria in the office today, but everyone was busy at a computer moving the work of the mission right along. I finished my missionary binders, and ordered the flights home for the three Latins leaving June 2 -- one to Peru, one to Chile, and one to Cordoba, Argentina. I am always grateful when the flight plans are emailed to me and in my hands. Hope that will be soon with these.

What did Elder Kroff do today? I don't even know. Oh yes, he was working with the President, by phone and emails, on budget matters. There has been a slight increase in several expenses the missionaries have: travel (remises), food, laundry services, and the withdrawal fee at ATM machines. So it has become necessary to increase the amount of money the mission gives them. This is in addition to the regular amount the church gives them monthly. So, he was busy and happy in his little corner.

Elders Peterson and Hales don't waste time around the office either. They are conscientious workers and pleasantly go about their business. They are great to work with!

When lunch time came, the elders mentioned that they were ordering chinese food to be delivered from a little place on Constitucion. Really?? As we questioned them on where, what and why, we thought that sounded good, so we all ordered chinese -- with Elder Kroff picking up the tab. They protested, but didn't win. We don't get to feed them very often, so we like to pay their way once in a while. The elders had a rice and vegetable combination, and we had chow mein. It was delicious, but the portions were insane. I ordered a small and the other three ordered grande sizes. Well, Rich and I could have shared my small easily. The elders could have shared a grande. We'll know better for next time. It was a nice change for lunch.

The elders went to their district meeting over in the church at 3:00 while Rich and I continued working. They left to go teaching and 4:00 and we left for home about 4:30.

We had a light dinner as we were still feeling the effects of lunch, and Rich went off to teach his English class. Later in the evening, I had a nice chat with Susanne and Thale on skype and Rich joined us when he returned from his class at 8:00.

I am finally caught up on journal entries. Yippee!
