A Fun Birthday - Tuesday, April 27, 2010

How wonderful to be remembered on my birthday. As a surprise, Melissa posted on our blog a picture of long ago. I hardly remember it being taken, but she latched on to it several years ago and it has remained one of her favorites. I hardly remember being that young!

Reading some emails and blog comments caused our schedule to get off a bit, and we were late getting to the office by about fifteen minutes. But who cares?? Birthday girls can be late if they want to, right? The elders remembered and wished me a Happy Birthday as we all greeted each other, and Sister Argyle called shortly after we arrived to do the same. How nice of her!

Elder Kroff has only spent one birthday in Argentina (in December), but this is my second. I remember my birthday last year very clearly as we had only been here about six weeks. We shared my birthday with a lady in the San Fernando ward named Elida Norton. She speaks perfect English as she was married to an American and lived in California for a period of time. Now she is back here and when she found out that we had the same birthday, she invited us to dinner with her two daughters and their families. This year she said she would have done the same, but she is in Mexico visiting her daughter who is the wife of a Mission President there.

Elder Kroff started his day by going straight to the bank to get that out of the way. Elder Peterson was discouraged with the computer problems we encountered yesterday, so he began thinking and planning our next move to get the bugs out. But, that required that I re-enter the data that I had previously done about four times before. Neither of us were happy campers!!

I answered some medical calls, then retired to my supply room to prepare the mail and pedidos
for the conference in Congreso tomorrow. The President will stop by to get them at the end of the day.

Our cute elders are as nice as they get. We have a good time working with them, and today they said they had a surprise for later on. Oh goodie, what could it be?

Plans were made at the beginning of the day to order Chinese food for lunch with Rich picking up the tab. The elders protested, but lost. They found a little Chinese restaurant on 3 de febrero that would deliver, reasonably priced and the food was good. So that's what we ordered for a little celebration today. The food was delivered by this man on his motorcycle, so we wanted to take his picture. We ordered Chow Mein, Chop Suey, and Sweet and Sour Chicken & Pork. We forgot the Soy Sauce, so Rich ran up the street to a little market to buy some. We will keep it in the kitchen, so it will be here for another time.

No fine linen or tablecloth, but we ate until we were full and enjoyed every bite. At the end of the meal, the elders pulled a container of ice cream out of the freezer. Yum!! That was their surprise treat. The container had three flavors in it -- vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. They opened it singing Happy Birthday with harmony. They are great! I offered to do the dishes, but they wouldn't hear of it.

After lunch Elder Peterson called Salt Lake with our computer problem which they said was a corrupted file. They told him how to solve it so he will work on it tomorrow. We are grateful for young minds in the office that can understand and solve these problems.

Tomorrow Rich is monitoring two Engish tests in the morning and Sister Argyle called to ask if we could wait until she brought her computer to us before we went home today. They take the test on her laptop. We gladly waited which was until 5:15 p.m. and then she gave us a ride home.

Rich left to teach his English class at 6:30, and upon his return we enjoyed a skype visit from Melissa, Nate and Urban. Our grandsons are getting so big. Love them so much!!!! Then Susanne and Thale skyped us and we had a nice chat with them. I enjoyed some birthday emails and worked on this entry.

It's been a fun birthday! Thanks everyone!

  1. I'm so glad the missionaries treated you to ice cream for your birthday! Tell them thanks from me for treating my mom well on her birthday - and everyday for that matter!
