Love the Fall - Sunday, March 28 2010

Another gorgeous day!! I was almost wishing for rain so having access to a car for church today would make it that much more of a blessing instead of dealing with public transportation. But, we'll be grateful to have the car on a Sunday whenever we can get it -- which is once every six weeks.

We can tell that fall is in the making with winter on down the road because it is dark when we get up each day at 6:00. It usually isn't hard to wake up because lately, in the early morning hours, we are not in a deep sleep -- either of us. Sometimes when I wake up in the night, I can't turn my mind off and begin thinking about situations at home or with family members and friends. However, we still manage to function alright on a limited amount of sleep.

Rich took this good shot of our chapel in Tigre. The little speck up front is me practicing my hymns for the day. Joaquin, President Torre's son, is early today sitting by himself hopefully getting spirutally prepared for the messages and lessons. He is about 13 or 14 years old.

The building has no air conditioning, but the chapel and classrooms are fitted with ceiling fans to circulate the air. There are 15 of these fans in the chapel. On really hot days when they are all in motion, the air movement is felt and makes the room comfortable, however, it messes up the sound system sometimes. The microphone squeals and hums at times and is attributed to the fans directly above the pulpit we think. So sometimes a few of the fans above the pulpit area are turned off. That's where we sit during church because of my need to be near the piano.

The Branch President and his counselor who has recently been made the new Elder's Quorum President, spoke to us today. Brother Adrian Acosta spoke on the priesthood and the importance of the brethren honoring their priesthood and living up to the covenants they have made. President Torre spoke on Easter and the sacrifice of the Savior.

Elder Kroff directed a discussion in the Gospel Principles class on the Sabbath Day. He gets everyone participating and reading different paragraphs from the manual, including the non member investigators. Those attending enjoy the class.

We are still confused what approach we are to take in making visits to some less active members in our branch. When we had a meeting with the sister missionaries several days ago, we compiled a list who the sisters felt needed attention. Then that night President Torre poked his head in our meeting and was invited to give his input. He cautioned the sisters about sending us to certain areas that might be a little dangerous after dark, and kind of, sort of wanted to give his opinion of who he thought we should visit. Then, the meeting ended and we were left with the "we'll get back to you" feeling. I approached Sister Shaffer about it today and she is confused as well. She was going to talk to President Torre about it. However, Elder Kroff thinks we need to attend the branch counsel meeting where all the auxillary heads are present to concur as a group where the emphasis should be placed.

This Toyota Corolla is a loaner car from Bonpland while the President's car is being fixed and serviced. Can't remember what problems his car has. But, this little car is roomy and nice and makes me think it would be a good economical car for us to buy if we need a second car when we get home. We tucked it away in our parking area for the night and will drive to the office tomorrow morning.

It was such a sunny beautiful day and our balcony seemed like a great spot to take a picture. We had spaghetti, tossed salad, and bread from a panaderia for dinner. We will really miss the breads they make here. They are the best! Maybe peaches and cream later will top off the day.

  2. We bought a 2004 Corolla and loved it! It is presently being kept/used by Kevin and Janell down in Spanish Fork as their second car. It was economical and reliable and got me to school and back.
