End of a Week - Friday, March 26, 2010

Another picture perfect day!! It is just wonderful outside, but yet we've seen people with sweaters on and, tonight, I saw a lady with a parka type vest on. I just don't understand it!

Big things happened at the office today. Right at 9:00, in came two guys from Bonpland with new cell phones for the whole mission. All of the missions in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay are changing to a new cell phone company. We have been with Personal, and are switching to Claro due to increase in rates and poor service. There are 14 missions affected. So these officials from the Area Offices delivered the phones and programmed them to a particular apartment in the mission. Missionaries move, but the phones do not. President Argyle came to hear the instructions and get set up with his new phone. All of the office elders including Elder Kroff went into the President's office for the training. I stayed in the outer office to answer the phones since I wouldn't know what they were saying anyway.

Elder Hales is in charge of the switch-over for our mission so is going to organize a plan for delivering the phones to all the district leaders this coming Monday. Since it is preparation day, the President wants all of us to take off in different directions and deliver the phones around the mission warning the missionaries that they are coming. Should be an interesting day!

We all kept busy doing this and that in the afternoon, and the elders were able to leave soon after the 4:00 hour. They are excited because tomorrow on "P" day we are all going to watch a basketball game. Yep, a real ball game. So our two basketball stars in the office can hardly wait. The Argyles son, Austin, is on the basketball team at his school and they are in a tournament with teams around Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile. The President has been taking some time off to watch his son play in this tournament and tomorrow is the last day. They had mentioned it to us some time ago and we told them we wanted to watch Austin play. So the President decided that a basketball game was a wholesome activity for "P" day and extended the invitation to the office elders to attend. They are thrilled.

If it is Friday, it must be shopping night. This morning we decided that since the office is about half way to our fruit and vegetable market, that we would take our pull along cart with us to the office and go there right after work before coming home. That was a great decision because there were not a lot a people there and it was easy to navigate through the narrow isles. We loaded up on our favorites. However, the oranges were over ripe and not acceptable.

So on our way home we stopped at another little mom and pop place to buy some oranges that looked better. I fit right in with the locals using a pull cart to carry our groceries.

After unloading the produce at home, we decided to go right to Disco and get the other things on our list. That store was not crowded yet either, so when we were ready to check out we walked right up to an empty check out line. Half way through, Rich discovered that he left his wallet home. Oh, for Pete's sake! When did he take it out of his pocket? So I ran home for his wallet while he waited with the groceries. Good thing we only live about three blocks from the store.

We weren't in the mood for our usual Friday night date at McDonalds. We had a late lunch at work and weren't very hungry yet. So we came home and after putting the groceries away and talking with Denise and Paul on skype, I had leftover corned beef and cabbage, and Rich had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It did the trick!

  1. I haven't left my wallet at home yet, but we always have to remember to check for the keys. Once the door is shut, it is LOCKED! It doesn't have a handle. The key both unlocks AND opens the door.
PB and jelly, washed down with cold milk; it doesn't get better than that. (Hot chocolate is great during the winter, though).

  2. Oh, hot chocolate is a summer/winter thing with this elder. And our door locks too when we go out. But from the inside we can open it as there is a handle. We have learned that the last thing we say out loud before we open the door to leave is "Do you have the key?"
