I got up at the same time realizing that I had a fruit salad to make for our lunch with the elders at the office today. I should have time to do it -- and I did. Juggling who would carry what was more difficult since Rich was going to use one crutch to help him walk to work today. He actually doesn't need them anymore, but he has never tried going that far without at least one crutch to help take the pressure off his leg. He is really just afraid of re-injuring it and going down again. It is still a bit tender. We are anxious to see what the MRI shows.
We had a pot of sloppy joe mix to carry, along with the salad and a chocolate cake. We just stack things up in plastic grocery bags and off we go. We made it just fine.
Once at the office, the multitude of things I need to do in the next two weeks before transfers roll around becomes very apparent and stressful. I haven't even started on the carpetas - the binders full of info for the new arrivals, nor have I prepared the packets for the leaving missionaries. And one thing that is a must this week is to order the plane tickets for those departing in December. Church travel suggests ordering them 5 or 6 months before the release date just to insure a seat on the desired flight, and especially if we have a number of them going at once. . .which we do. I need to get busy on these projects, but I keep getting interrupted. Hope tomorrow will be better.
Just after we arrived at work, we heard a familiar voice in the foyer and it was President Argyle. We have never greeted him so early in the morning. Since he has been gone for a week, he had a number of things to do which required him coming to the office today. It was good to see him. We always have questions that he can answer. Plus, he needed to pick up his car that we have been using all week.
Lunch time rolled around and the smell of sloppy joes warming made everyone hungry right now. I invited the President to join us and surprisingly he didn't say no. Usually, he is on a tight schedule and running all the time. Hopefully he will stay long enough to eat.
At lunch we discussed the car situation, since now our office car is gone. It looks like the President will be sharing his car with us more than we thought. There are days that he doesn't have to visit around and will work from his office at home. On those days the elders can use it if they need to. And. . . on those days if we need to run any errands, we can do so after work. Yea! The time we won't have access to a car will be during the two weeks of zone conferences, and never on weekends. Ouch! Oh well.
Mom that is the second person you know that has said that about a fruit salad. That could just be dessert. Easier for you. : ) I'm glad you are doing well Dad. Can't wait to hear about what the MRI says. Love you! Marianne
ReplyDeleteWhy can't the Presidente use the family car on weekends?
ReplyDeleteNo fair that the elders are eating MY chocolate cake!
Who was the first person, Marianne, I forgot? I thought about you when I made the cake, Melissa. This time I could add the nuts on top because you weren't here to eat it. And on weekends, the President goes to meetings and baptisms, and to different wards and branches on Sundays. His wife needs a car to transport kids around and attend their own ward on Sunday. The weekends are busy for them.
ReplyDeleteI was referring to Junior. Remember how he thought the jello salad you made for Thanksgiving was the dessert?
