A Missionary from Mexico

We arrived at work today anticipating the arrival of a new missionary from Mexico.  He came in between transfers, and we aren't sure if he was detained because of the swine flu epidemic, or if it was a visa problem. We only know that he went to the MTC in Mexico instead of Argentina, and that delayed him.

Since the President is down South holding zone conferences, Sister Argyle and two of her children went to the airport to pick him up.  She brought him to the office for his training and lunch.  So Elders Kroff and Valente didn't have to travel to the mission home to give their part of the training.  They did it in the President's office.  Then we ordered Empanadas and fruit for lunch.  It worked out okay, but it wasn't the usual fanfare that happens at the mission home at transfer time.  Then one of the AP's came and got him. They will be a trio for a while until he is assigned a companion.  I can't believe we didn't take a picture of him to add to this entry.

That was the only excitement we had today. Work was normal and not many calls came in today because it is a holiday for the Argentines.  It is National Flag Day. There are so many holidays in this country.  We can't keep up with them. We just know that everything is closed on holidays around here. . . . well, most everything.  Major grocery stores are open, but the Mom and Pop places are closed down.

Elder Kroff went with the missionaries to an appointment about 4:30.  It was to a young man in his twenties who is a student.  He is a student of math.  He likes to figure things out and have reasons for everything.  It has been months since they have been able to get into the house, but today he let them in. They had a good discussion, and they have another appointment with him on Friday.  The elders were on a "high" over that one.

The next appointment was at the church with a man who is reading the Book of Mormon and is really excited about the church.  He is really close to being baptized, and that discussion was successful also.  So when Rich left the elders, they were about two feet off the ground with these positive experiences.

I came home when the three of them left the office, and it was 4:45.  That is the earliest I have ever set foot in the door after work.  But, it was good because I wanted to get two entries done tonight.  I got behind over the weekend.

Rich took a picture of our cute dish drainer and thought we should post it for viewing.  It was among the things purchased for our use when we arrived.  I like it because it is small and . . . . .

it can be folded up when not in use.

This is the only thing we have found to use as a cooling rack for cookies etc.  It probably is used for hot dishes too.  We haven't found anything different than this little square wood thing.  Not even WalMart has regular cooling racks.  Strange!  It is found with the cooking utinsels and cake pans.  One was here when we came, but we had to purchase another because it doesn't hold very much.

Our weather is still mild and quite pleasant.  It gets to the low 60's in the daytime and low 40's at night. If this is what winter is like, then we'll be okay.
