It Really Happened

Today when we got to work, Elder Clegg announced that his bags were packed and he was just waiting for his new companion to come and pick him up.  President Argyle called him last night with the news that he would be going to a zone called Liniers, and his new companion would be Elder Petty.  Liniers is about a one and a half hours drive from here, but at least it isn't far out in the campos (countryside).  He seemed pleased to be going there.  And, Elder Petty seems like a sharp missionary, so they should get along fine.  It was kind of sad for the four of us left in the office to see him go. For me, it was like one of my own leaving the nest.  I couldn't resist giving him a big hug, even if I am a missionary.  He needed one and I did too.  But we are happy for him, and he was ready to go.  Eight months in the office is sufficient, wouldn't you say?  Now he has five months to be out in the field before he returns home.

We were so busy the rest of the day.  In just over three weeks, it is transfer time again.  How could it be???  Our mission will be over before we know it, if things don't slow down.  I prepared letters and certificates to be sent to the stake presidents and families of those returning home, and they need to be mailed tomorrow for sure.  I need to order some supplies from the Distribution Center, some boxes of copies of the Book of Mormon, and some missionary placas (name tags) that some missionaries have ordered.  In between all of this, I need to enter baptisms.  The work never ceases. . . but I guess that is good, or we wouldn't be needed here.

We get excited each day when the correo comes. (The mail)  We desperately need our new debit card to be here, but we keep getting disappointed.  Now that we have paid the rent and bought some groceries out of the last money that Marianne wired to us, we are down to just a few pesos again.  This is getting serious.  We thought, for sure, they would be here by now.  Maybe tomorrow!

As I was ironing some shirts for Rich, he quizzed me on some Spanish words.  To his surprise, I was superb.  I have been doing my homework.  I need to study every day. . .something, or I'll never catch on to this language.  I know I won't ever be very fluent, but I want to at least be able to communicate with people.   Saturday at breakfast at the Mission Home, the President's 9 year old son, Seth, was asked to say the blessing.  He did it in Spanish, and WOW, was I impressed.  He didn't just say a few things.  It was actually quite a long prayer.  But, then he has been at it longer than me.  (That's the excuse I give)

Also, tonight, a call came from a lady in our ward who had a referral to give the missionaries. It was a lady and her 16 year old daughter who somehow knew about the church, and had been reading the Book of Mormon.  She said she wants to come to our church on Sunday, but wants to speak to some missionaries first about it.  Talk about a golden contact!!! Whoever gets this better follow up on it, or they are crazy.
