Off to San Isidro

We made a list throughout the week of things we needed to buy, and places we needed to find. One thing we felt was a necessity was getting another key that unlocks the door to our apartment building.  If Rich leaves for any reason, then the keys are with him, and I am locked in the building.  How would I escape, should there be a reason to do so?   Locksmith's are not on every corner, so it is by word of mouth that we ask the right person and they give the right directions.  We were informed that the type of llave (key) we needed could be found in a shop in San Isidro.  There must be a key place here in San Fernando, but where??

On Saturday, we took the train to San Isidro.  Not only were we successful in finding the locksmith we needed, but we also found a Libreria (bookstore/paper supplies). I needed cardstock on which to print some tablero cards for President Argyle's missionary board.

Then, we went in search of Sister Argyle's favorite fruit and vegetable market.  She orders all her produce from this one market and it is really fresh.  We haven't found a place where we live that compares.  The amazing thing is that the key shop, fruit market, and paper store were all within a couple blocks of the train station.  It was a wonderful discovery.  We will return to make more purchases as needed, for sure.

Waiting for the train for the return trip home.

After cooking and cleaning Saturday afternoon in anticipation of the dinner on Sunday for the Elders, we went to the church to meet our office Elders. They asked us to accompany them to teach an investigator. At the church, the Relief Society was having a homemaking activity.  It seemed strange to me to have it on a Saturday night, but hey, whatever works is good. We didn't know for sure what they were making, but they were sewing or threading narrow ribbons onto fabric in the shape of flowers.  They were really pretty.

This is Maria (on the left), and Amelia (on the right). Amelia is the R.S. President and has been a member of the church for 24 years.  This is her second time as president. Maria has only been a member for about 4 or 5 months and is a counselor.  They are really strong sisters.  They take good care of me.

Rich had them all pose for a photo shoot.  They love having their picture taken.  The treats and food looked good, but we couldn't stay around.

The young woman being taught a discussion had a remarkable story.  At first, she wasn't one bit interested in hearing about the church.  Her friends introduced her to it, but she was very opposed to everything. Then she came to church one Sunday, and everything changed.  She felt the spirit and consented to hear more.  She said she had such hatred and bitter feelings for some members of her family and she could not let go of them.  But since hearing the discussions, she said all that has left and she feels at peace with them.  She did an "about face", and the Elders were really on a high over it.  It is wonderful to see lives change.  Sweet is the Work!!
