When we walked into the office this morning at 8:30 a.m. we didn't poke our heads outside until we left at 6:00 p.m. Elders Clegg and Valente left early in the morning to run errands dealing with opening apartments, paying rents, and a variety of other things. They were gone all day and came back looking pretty hammered and tired. It wears one out driving in this traffic, finding parking places, and trying to get things done when places close for siesta time, and the public is not catered to at all. I felt bad for them. But, their day was not over, as they picked up their scriptures and headed out to preach and teach all night. We were tired from doing what we do all day, but we were able to go home and call it a day.
I spent most of the morning sending emails to the parents of those missionaries going home in November to collect updated information on addresses, Stake President's names and addresses, airports where their son/daughter would be flying into etc. etc. Then after the responses come back, I order their return flights home. Then I started filling the pedidos, which are the requests from the missionaries of supplies they need for the next 6 weeks. Today was day two of zone conferences, and theses materials are taken to the conference to be given to the missionaries along with their mail that has been stacking up since the last conferences were held. Then I started entering baptisms that took place last week. I was not in need of anything to do.
Rich was doing what financial secretaries do. The President has revamped everything to do with the amount of money the missionaries get. More about that in tomorrows update.
So, we were busy all day, and the time does go fast for us. We are grateful for that. We certainly are not bored working in the office. Elder Nelson, our new office worker since this last transfer, stayed with us and worked on what he has been trained so far to do. He is from Oregon, and goes home in a little less than a year. He has a pleasant personality-- I think we'll like him!
I told in the previous blog about the soup called Locro, which is traditional Argentine food. Well here is a picture of it. Last night, in the night, Rich woke up not feeling so good. He didn't want to wake me, so he went out in the front room to play around on the computer waiting to see if he was going to be sick or not. This was about midnight, or 1:00 a.m. He wondered if something in the soup was not agreeing with him.......probably the cow's stomach. (ha)While there, he had Skype on, and Melissa rang him wondering why he was not in bed. It was only 9:00 - 10:00 in Utah. They talked for a while and Nate helped him with a problem he was having with the computer. From the bedroom, and with earplugs in (which we have to use to block out the incredibly noisy street below), I could faintly hear some talking. I thought it was from another apartment, and wondered why I could hear it being all plugged up. Then I realized in my half awakened state, that it was coming from the living room, but was too tired to see what Rich was up to. His queesy stomach passed, and he came to bed about 2:00.
Hey, I think that's Melissa second from the right!
