Good Day at the Office

We have been waiting for fall to arrive, and it has been taking it's own sweet time.  The leaves are starting to turn yellow, and some are falling, but the temperature has been too warm to seem like fall--- or at least the fall we are used to.  However, yesterday and for the next couple of days, the forecast is for rain and temps in the 60's.  So maybe the change is coming.

Part of our mission is in the southern most tip of Argentina, down in Tierra de Fuego.  It is assigned to the Buenos Aires mission because the only way to get there is to fly.  President Argyle goes down there to hold zone conferences every six weeks.  Right now the high temperature there is around 40 degrees, and the low around 33 degrees.  Some missionaries want to go there so they can have their picture taken with a Penguin.  It is the only mission field in the world that is the closest to Antarctica. We would like to go there, at least for a visit, before we leave Argentina.  I hope we can make it happen because we'll never be as close to it ever again.

Last night, our office Elders asked Elder Kroff to go with them to see an investigator.  The weather looked threatening, so he wore his rain coat and put on his hat. The young Elders just don't plan ahead.  They are still in shirt sleeves even though the weather is cooler at night. They had to walk about six blocks, and before reaching the home, it started to rain hard.  The man of the house, for some reason, would not let them in even though the appointment was made.  He had some excuse, but said he would be to church on Sunday.  He mentioned that he didn't think they would come because of the rain, and seemed impressed that they made the effort.

When Rich came back home, his coat and hat were dripping.  I suggested taking my umbrella, but he said his hat and coat would be enough.  Wrong!!   I asked about the Elders, and he said they were drenched and very cold because of being wet.  They were going to go home and change clothes and then go to another appointment.  Work doesn't stop until 9:00 p.m.  They are so dedicated.

We see many pretty sunsets from our balcony.  In the morning when the sun rises, it is bright red.  Because we are in the southern hemisphere, the sun comes up in the northern sky and stays in the north.  It seems strange to us because it is exactly opposite in Utah.

Today in the office, we continued to work on things that relate to transfer week.  The amazing thing to me is that I thought I would have to have Elder Clegg sit with me and walk me through some things again, since I had only done them once before.  But, for part of the day, he was gone to pick up the President's family van that had been in the garage for servicing, so I pulled out the instructions and was so thrilled that I could figure out how to make Tablero Cards (bulletin board cards).  These are cards that are done on the computer and printed on card stock paper to which the new missionaries pictures are attached.  These go on a large wall or board where the President can arrange them into companionships and zones.  Oh, I was so happy that I didn't have to have help.

All of the supplies we ordered from the Distribution Center came yesterday, so I unpacked them and put them on the shelves.  It will be interesting to see how much is left after all of the 10 zone conferences are over this time around.  Zone conferences start the week after transfers.

This is Elder Miranda.  He is from Chile, and is one of the Assistants to the President.  He is so cute, and personable.  I just love him.  He is one of my favorite Elders -- next to our office Elders, of course.  He is so attentive and nice to me.  I think I am his favorite senior sister.
