We feel liberated!! Today we decided we would take the train out of our area of San Fernando and go to Acacusso which is where the the Mission President lives. It is there that Sister Argyle told me of a store that sells baking items such as chocolate chips, nuts, baking cocoa, real brown sugar like we are used to, rolled oats, and peanut butter that tastes better than the kind they sell in the grocery stores, etc, etc. It was great! The store was right across the street from where the train stopped......so easy to find. It was like a health food store. There are a lot of foreigners, probably from the US, living in this area so he caters to what they want. Rich was especially excited because he found real rolled oats for his morning oatmeal. Then around the corner in this same block is a meat market where they sell pretty lean ground beef. The hamburger in the grocery stores is so full of fat, so this is where Sister Argyle buys it. So we went there also. We were so proud of ourselves that we ventured out and found these places. Of course, we couldn't walk around after we bought the meat-----we had to get back on the train and take the meat and other food home. But at least we feel like we can use the public transportation and get around. I wonder where we will go next Saturday??
Rich also went to get a haircut at a little shop in our neighborhood that is operated by an older gentleman. He said he knew of the Mormons and that some of the "young boys" would come, but they didn't stay long......meaning they didn't stay in the area very long. Rich explained that some move around every 6 weeks, but that we will be here 18 months. Rich asked him if anyone had ever given him a Book of Mormon. He said no one had. So maybe Rich can strike up a conversation with him as he gets his hair cut regularly.
